Prescott Turns Out to Support their Veterans

12 November 2019
Thousands lined the streets of downtown Prescott on Veteran’s day to honor and celebrate local veterans.

The theme this year was, “Korean War Veterans – Never Forget Their Service”. From Veterans in their 90’s, to young children in strollers, it was a heartfelt recognition of all Veterans, but with a focus on those that served during the Korean War.

Originally, the Veteran’s Day Parade was a more intimate event, as it was held on the grounds of the Bob Stump Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Watching the veterans and entries march around the middle of the VA Center was a moving experience.

In 2010: Mayor Marlin Kuykendall was getting ready to judge the Veteran’s Day Parade, when he suffered a heart attack. The VA sent the Mayor by ambulance to Yavapai Regional Medical Center, where he later had quintuple heart bypass surgery. He made a full recovery, and attended the following year’s Veteran’s Day Parade.

2011: Due to extensive construction around the VA Center, the annual parade was moved to the Embry Riddle campus.

2012: The parade returned to the Veterans Affairs Medical Center for one more year. But by that time, it was felt the Veterans Day Parade had outgrown that venue.

2013: The City of Prescott, the VA Medical Center and Embry Riddle joined together to bring the Veterans Day Parade to downtown Prescott for the first time. Senator John McCain was in attendance.

It has taken place in downtown Prescott ever since.

You can watch the parade here:

This year, 96 entries followed the parade route through downtown Prescott and around the Courthouse Plaza for the sixth year since moving from the VA. See the list of parade entries below. Following that, is the photo gallery.

There are a lot of photos here - we always try to get at least one photo of each entry!
