A van was totaled in a vehicle fire.

Shortly after 1pm today Prescott Regional Communications Center received reports of a vehicle fire in the community of Ponderosa Park, south of Prescott. Engines from Prescott Fire and Central Arizona Fire & Medical Authority responded to the incident, along with a CAFMA water tender and a Prescott Battalion Chief. When the engines arrived on scene they found a fully engulfed van with fire spreading to the surrounding pine needles and into a pine tree. Adjacent to the van was a small travel trailer with propane tanks which were heavily impinged by the heat and flames. The first engine was able to deploy a hose line and quickly extinguish both the car fire and the growing wildland fire.

The owner of the van reported that he had been working on replacing a fuel pump on the van at the time that the fire started. The fire spread rapidly despite the use of three extinguishers on the blaze. The car was a total loss and the travel trailer suffered extensive damage as the heat from the fire had caused fire to spread into the walls of the trailer. No firefighters were injured in the course of operations.

The firefighter deploying the hose line is CAFMA firefighter Rodney Blum.
