Sales, Menus & Recipes: It's Fathers Day!
Featured

14 June 2018

Father’s Day is Sunday June 17.

The origin of Father’s Day is traced to the Catholic Feast of St Joseph, March 19. In Italy the celebration frequently includes the eating of special cream filled pastries called zeppola. Other countries have different traditions, but all stress the importance of fathers and father figures in children’s lives.

Modern father’s day was initiated soon after Mother’s day, around 1903. But it didn’t really get going until the 1940’s. As is usual in the USA, it began to be promoted by various merchants selling ties and other masculine apparel. In 1966 Lyndon Johnson issued the first Presidential proclamation establishing Father’s Day as the third Sunday in June.

So—this is the day to let your Dad know you appreciate him, give him a gift, a special family event, and a fabulous meal. One thing to keep in mind, however - we’re in Stage 2 Fire Restrictions, so any barbecuing will have to be on a gas grill that can be turned off.
