PRESCOTT, Ariz. – Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Air Force ROTC (AFROTC) Detachment 028 will honor 2009 graduate Capt. Paul Barbour with a Memorial 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, March 3, at 9:30 a.m. Barbour, 32, perished in a November 2017 aircraft accident near Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, one year after becoming a flight instructor at the base.
While a student at Embry-Riddle, Barbour served with distinction as a member of both AFROTC Det. 028 and the Steven M. Scherp Squadron of Arnold Air Society, a service organization within the Cadet wing. Upon graduation, he secured a pilot slot and successfully completed U.S. Air Force flight training.
“Paul was an outstanding husband, officer, warrior and alumnus and we want to recognize his sacrifice on behalf of our nation’s security,” said Embry-Riddle Chancellor and retired Air Force Colonel Dr. Frank Ayers. “So many of our young men and women join the nation’s military on behalf of our nation, and by honoring Capt. Barbour, we also honor their service and sacrifice as well.”
