Roughriders Score Four Goals Against Gateway Community College for Program Win #599

PRESCOTT VALLEY- Alexander Guadron, William Baynham, Emiliano Cardona and Ziyad Fares each had a goal for the Yavapai College soccer team as the Roughriders beat Gateway Community College 4-0 at home on Tuesday, September 12th to remain undefeated and pick up program win #599.

The scoring started early for Yavapai College as Guadron got the Roughriders on the board in the 7th minute on an assist from Jose Perez Flores.

Baynham, who scored two goals in the win Saturday night, gave Yavapai College a 2-0 lead with a goal right before halftime in the 38th minute, assisted by John Scearce.

Following halftime, Cardona would score an unassisted goal in the 61st minute and assist Fares with the fourth Yavapai College goal in the 89th minute to seal the victory.

While the Roughriders did score four goals, there were plenty of chances for more as Yavapai College outshot Gateway Community College 40-4 and set a record with twenty corner kicks.

”We’re happy with the win, we’re always happy to win,” said Roughrider soccer assistant coach Hugh Bell. “It could have been a little bit more technical, maybe, and that probably would have been more pleasing to coaches.”

The win improves Yavapai College’s record to 7-0-1 on the young season.

“Excited for this win,” Guadron said. “We have a great team this season, try to keep it up.”

The victory on Tuesday night also gave the program, and head coach Michael Pantalione, win #599.

“It’d be special for Mike (Pantalione), it’d be special for me, it’d be special for our school,” Bell said. “Let’s come prepared to play a good soccer match and I’m pretty sure everything else will take care of itself.”

Yavapai College soccer will go for program win #600 on Thursday, September 14th, in a makeup game against Phoenix College at Mountain Valley Park in Prescott Valley. Start time is 6 pm and admission is free.
